Dear Editor,
In a recent article, Morgan Hill School District board candidate Bob Griesenger said that one thing he learned with his son’s experience at Bellarmine is that students there receive more help with getting into college than at Live Oak.
However, from reading Crissy Bryant’s column of a month ago, it seems that students receive no help at all for anything at Live Oak. That’s really sad, and parents should be outraged, as well as the school board members.
Many studies from the 1990s to today show that the wage gap between college graduates and high school graduates is widening. The answer for school boards and administrations is not to resurrect or expand vocational programs, but focus on providing more help (or, in Live Oak’s case, according to Miss Bryant, some) for students to access higher education.
With our town’s demographics, there is no reason that the precentage of Live Oak graduates going on to four-year colleges should be as low as it is.
