An attempt to kidnap a 16-year-old Morgan Hill girl on her way to school on Friday was unsuccessful, as the student punched one of the suspects, yelled and broke free, running for home.

Four Hispanic males in a black four-door SUV pulled up next to the student at approximately 8:12 a.m. in the area of Old Monterey and Llagas roads as she was walking to school. The passenger in the right rear seat of the vehicle opened the door and tried to pull the girl into the vehicle, police said.

After punching the suspect and running away, she crossed the street to distance herself from the SUV, as the suspects had attempted to pull up next to her again. She was able to reach home without incident and call police.

MHPD officers searched the area west of the railroad overcrossing of Monterey, but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Last month, a Martin Murphy Middle School student experienced a similar attempt as she was waiting for the bus at Cochrane Road and Butterfield Boulevard.

The suspects in that attempt were in a different vehicle and did not attempt to pull the victim into the vehicle. As she was running away, the bus arrived and she was able to board it safely. Arriving at the school, she informed school officials of the attempt, and the officials notified the MHPD.

Some schools sent notices home with students to parents, alerting them of the incident.

The suspect that attempted to pull the female student into the SUV on Friday is described as an Hispanic male wearing a grey sweatshirt with paint stains. Anyone with information on the attempted kidnapping is asked to call the MHPD at 779-2101.
