Live Oak Roller Hockey with a perfect start

With six returning players, one new player and a new goalie, Live Oak won their first three games against Mountain View, Lincoln and Fremont high schools.

With Sobrato opening, Live Oak lost their two goalies and several players from last year. However, both schools were able to put a team together.

Senior Michael Anvari was recruited as goalie and has made key contributions to the game, including a shutout against Fremont.

In front of Anvari include senior Matt Edgar, juniors Ricky Lasher and Chase Norman and sophomores Scott Alexander, Brian Costello, Kyle Dutra and Conner Williamson. Junior Paul Warren plays on an occasional basis.

Leading the team is coach Tim Simpson, who came back for another season.

The team is in the process of becoming a Live Oak club.

The Live Oak Roller Hockey Team plays Fridays and will next battle with Independence and Leland high schools.

Orchard Valley sponsors camp for league goal keepers

Last season Orchard Valley Youth Soccer League provided a training camp for all rec. players and coaches. In its efforts to continue the soccer education of its coaches and players, OVYSL is currently providing its competition goalkeepers with a 10-week goalkeeper camp featuring Greg Bacchetti, Olympic Development Program coach and instructor at Stanford University Soccer Centers for Excellence as its trainer.

The 10-week camp, which ends Oct. 29, is divided into two 1 1/2 hour sessions each week. The early session is designed for the U9-U12 players and the later session is designed for the U13-U18 players. Orchard Valley coaches whose goalkeepers are participating in the camp have all noticed a marked improvement in their goalies’ games as a result of the camp.

Eagle Ridge offers plenty to do in October

Where can a six-year-old hold the golf course record? The Eagle Ridge Mini Course for kids, of course. Held through October, the Mini Course will be offered on Sundays after 3pm for $5 per round. And, that’s just one of the many events for kids and adults that Eagle Ridge offers this month.

On Sunday, Oct. 17 at 4:30pm, Eagle Ridge will offer Storybook Magic with nationally renowned children’s author Karen Beaumont, who reads from her most beloved books, and talks about writing and rhyming by the cozy fireside at the Clubhouse. After a buffet dinner with the kids, featuring specialties and an ice cream sundae bar, you can meet the author personally and get a favorite book autographed or buy a new copy. Reservations are requested as space is limited.

On Saturday, Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m., Eagle Ridge will hold an Oktoberfest celebration featuring authentic Oompah music, Bavarian Buffet Dinner, Souvenir glasses and specialty beers on tap and more. Cost is $21.95. Space is limited, so call for reservations.
