A 20-year-old man suspected of carrying a concealed weapon was arrested by Morgan Hill police officers in the late afternoon April 9 after a foot pursuit that ended on the baseball field at Live Oak High School.
Officers caught up with Spencer Smith, 20, and took him into custody, booking him on resisting/delaying an officer and driving on a suspended license. Smith also had a $2,500 misdemeanor warrant for his arrest.
A black Beretta BB gun was later located where Smith had fled in a pursuit that began with the suspect darting from a vehicle in a driveway at the 1900 block of East Main Avenue.
Prior to that, officers were originally dispatched to the Chevron Gas Station, located at 851 Cochrane Road, at approximately 3:30 p.m. April 9 for a call of “a suspicious subject with a handgun in his waistband.” They were unable to locate the subject or the associated vehicle at the Chevron, but later observed the vehicle at the intersection of East Main Avenue and Hill Road, police said.
“As officers made contact with the occupants of the vehicle, one of the occupants (Smith) fled on foot and was later taken into custody on the baseball field of LOHS,” according to police.
MHPD K9 Sony, along with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department K9, assisted in the pursuit and capture of the suspect.
