Five teams are moving on to the Central Coast Section playoffs this week, as the brackets were revealed over the weekend.
Two of those teams received Top 5 seeds and three others received home games to kick off the tournament.
The Oakwood boys and girls basketball teams were rewarded for their stellar seasons with 3 and 5 seeds, respectively.
The Oakwood boys basketball team (19-5, 10-0) swept its league competition for the second year in a row and was named the No. 3 seed in the boys Division V playoff bracket.
The Hawks received a bye into the quarterfinals on Saturday at Alma Heights High School where they will face the winner of No. 6 Stevenson’s second round match against either Downtown College Prep or San Francisco Christian.
The time for that game is to be determined.
The winner moves on to the semifinals on March 4 at Santa Clara High School.
Oakwood will try to avenge a loss last year to St. Francis in the quarterfinals. Those two teams could face off in the semis if both win their respective games on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the girls also got a bye into the quarterfinals where they will take on No. 4 seeded Alma Heights at Del Mar on Saturday.
The Lady Hawks went a perfect 10-0 in Coastal Division play (16-6 overall). Alma Heights, meanwhile, went 14-8 overall and 8-2 in the Private School-North League, taking second behind Mountain View Academy.
Both schools were pretty equal when it came to common opponents, except Alma Heights lost to Kirby Prep to start the season whereas Oakwood knocked off Kirby twice in league play.
The winner will advance to the semis on March 4 at Del Mar and will likely have to play No. 1 seed St. Francis-CCC.
Meanwhile, Sobrato and Live Oak will be gearing up for three home games between them as the girls basketball teams from both schools plus the girls soccer team from Sobrato all earned the right to host a game.
The Sobrato girls basketball team advanced to the second round of Division III play by virtue of winning the Santa Teresa Division last week.
The No. 10 Bulldogs will host No. 7 Capuchino 7 p.m. Thursday with the winner advancing to play No. 2 Notre Dame-San Jose on Saturday at Mills High School.
Capuchino took fifth in the Peninsula Athletic League-South with a 7-5 league mark and a 12-11 overall record.
Live Oak earned the No. 11 seed in the DIII bracket where the Acorns will host unseeded James Lick on Tuesday.
James Lick was the third place team out of the West Valley Division, going 9-5 in league play and 9-9 overall.
The winner of that game will advance to face No. 6 Branham on Thursday in San Jose.
Finally, the Sobrato girls soccer team will host No. 11 Branham at the Morgan Hill Sports Complex on Wednesday.
The Bulldogs swept through the Santa Teresa Division with an 11-1-2 record.
Branham was the third-place team out of the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League and was 7-6-7 overall (5-4-5 in league play).
The winner advances to play No. 3 Aptos on Saturday at a place to be determined.
