Live Oak High clothing program students will be modeling their original designs Thursday, May 13 at 7 p.m., in the Little Theater on the high school campus, 1505 E. Main St.
More than 200 garments, modeled by 140 students, will be featured in this student-produced show. Tickets are $7 for adults, $6 for students and children 5 and under are free.
The students featured in the fashion show are enrolled in Live Oak’s clothing classes and the ROP Fashion Design classes. ROP stands for Regional Occupational Programs. Students learn garment construction, color and textile selection and pattern drafting. These classes are designed to train students for jobs in the field of fashion design and manufacturing.
Featured in this year’s show are many original designs. The show will begin with a collection of student designed garments reflecting the theme Pink. Students selected the theme Pink after reading articles on current trends in color and textile development.
Shortly thereafter they read and discussed an article on the 40th anniversary of President Kennedy’s assassination. The article’s emphasis described the emotional impact of Jackie Kennedy’s pink suit on that day; the power of clothing to communicate and convey history. This link between history and today’s trends led to the selection of this years theme.
Also featured at this year’s show will be a collection of student-created quilts and hand-knitted/crocheted garments.
Generous community support from local businesses help make the production a success. Selix Tuxedo, on Campbell Avenue in San Jose, has donated tuxedos for the formal wear section of the show. Nordstrom Fashion Board, at Valley Fair, recently included students in their fashion show and prize give away. The Print Shop and Party Safari have provided services for the show.
