I’m a bit confused by the recent letter to the editor from Joe Sciabica. He says that “liberal Democratic politicians … criticism of the war in Iraq is giving aid and comfort to the terrorists.” Strong words. After all one of the definitions of treason, Article 3 Section 3 of the Constitution, is “giving aid and comfort to the enemy.”

Did you really mean that those who disagree with the war in Iraq are traitors to their country? Were those Republicans who disagreed with LBJ about Vietnam treasonous as well?

You also stated that “President Bush sent in troops to Iraq for the terrorist attack on 9-11”. That is strange because we were attacked by people living in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Not one of them came from Iraq. I think many of us would feel better about losing hundreds of brave soldiers fighting those that actually attacked us.

The stated reason for going to war in Iraq, I heard, was to get rid of Sadam. Personally, I’ve always been more concerned about North Korea which has far more serious weapons of mass destruction than Sadam ever had.

I do strongly agree with you, Joe, on one comment. “God Bless the United States of America and our troops”. Isn’t it wonderful that we can share our divergent opinions, hopefully without implying that one is a traitor to their country, because we may agree to disagree. Now there is something worth fighting for.
