With five weeks of school left, Live Oak is gearing up for an exciting and busy last month of school. It started early with the recent Senior Beach Day at Seacliff. Although it turned out to be a gray, cloudy and rainy day, seniors were still able to have a great time taking advantage of a tasty barbeque, music and relaxing on the sand. I know I came home with sand on everything I brought, but overall it was a fun day.
The next activity seniors are anxiously awaiting is this Saturday’s senior prom. Held at the Club Del Monte in Monterey, this is one of the biggest and most popular events of the year. Hopefully everyone has made their dinner reservations, gotten their dress or tux and ordered their corsages.
Seniors also get to look forward to this year’s secretly themed Grad Night. We will be treated to an all night party filled with games, music, prizes, food and much more. Seniors – don’t procrastinate – buy your tickets now before prices increase again.
Also upcoming is Powderpuff Football. Each class is invited to have a team of all girls participate in this annual, highly competitive flag football match.
Besides the many things that are just beginning, a few things are wrapping up for the year. The spring musical, Fiddler on the Roof, performed for the last time to a full house on Saturday night. This was an awesome play and gave Live Oak drama a good opportunity to showcase some of its students amazing talent. Also coming to a close are most of the spring sports and I would like to wish those individuals and teams that are moving on to CCS the best of luck.
The school year is winding down faster than most teachers and students, including myself, can believe. The last day of school and graduation are just one month from today: Five weeks; one month; 33 days; 24 days without weekends. No matter which way you count it, summer is approaching quickly.
Some days it feels like I can hardly sit through one more class. On other days I keep wondering if I’m really ready to graduate in only 24 days. Is that enough time to spend with all of the people that I’ve grown accustomed to seeing everyday, and might never see again? Is that enough time to finish growing up enough so I’ll be ready to be on my own when I begin college this fall?
I even have my own personal countdown. I’ll be moving out to go to school in three months from tomorrow. I know I’m not the only senior beginning to feel a bit nostalgic about graduation.
Although “senioritis” is at its peak, its hard not to feel like a great thing is coming to an end. I’ve had an amazing three years as a nut and I can only hope that as the next chapter of my life begins, I will continue to have as good an experience as I have had at Live Oak.
