Dear Editor,
It’s Valentine’s Day. The one special day of the year when we are supposed to remember the ones we love.
A time to say I love you and thank you for loving me.
Thank you for being such an important part of my life. Thanks for always being there when I really need you.
This is the big day for sending cards, bouquets of flowers, heart shaped boxes of chocolates and singing teddy bears.
Perhaps a candlelight dinner or romantic weekend away, or a little blue box from Tiffany’s would be appropriate?
There are so many different ways to say I love you, and any one of these choices would clearly convey true love.
However, this year I have a real problem. Nothing seems quite right for his particular situation and circumstance.
The depth and breadth of my love and gratitude this year expands far beyond the realm of the traditional holiday.
This is one of those particular times, Morgan Hill Times, when I just need to say it, and the story needs to be told.
What is love? It’s being there in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, and in the middle of the night when someone’s whole world has turned upside down.
It’s making lots of phone calls and doing the research to shine some light on the scary darkness of the unknown.
It’s being a pillar of strength, courage and hope when the love of my life is diagnosed pancreatic cancer – the sting of the words, “You’ve got three months to live.”
It’s networking prayer when the doctors have given up. It’s finding a way to get him on a plane to Morgan Hill and into the arms of family, friends and team Stanford.
It’s opening your hearts and home, so wide and so long. Sharing your kids, your family and all of your friends, hosting celebration parties and nightly gourmet meals, a big fundraiser and a truly amazing personal Web site. Helping us find a place to live and getting us all moved in.
Six long and scary months of supports and encouragement.
True love is all the things you do, just because you’re you.
Thank you for making our world … so full of love.
What’s love got to do with with it? Love is what it’s all about.
Here’s to love. Here’s to life. Here’s to you.
Cherie and David Foster,
Morgan Hill
