
More than 500 Morgan Hill Unified School District graduates took part in three different commencement ceremonies throughout town as the graduating class of 2019 earned their high school diplomas under sunshine and warm temperatures during a picturesque week in South Valley.
“The sentiment among the school staff, families and trustees here is nothing short of absolute pride, joy and optimism about the future,” said MHUSD Board President Mary Patterson, who sat front and center with her board colleagues as well as district and site staff during Friday’s back-to-back ceremonies at Live Oak and Ann Sobrato high schools. “The Class of 2019 has earned that and more.”
Sobrato High, with 265 graduates, kicked off the June 7 commencements with a 2pm ceremony followed by Live Oak High School, with 239 graduates, at 6pm later that same day on their respective campuses.
Kelli St. Clair was the class of 2019 valedictorian and Brian Ho was the salutatorian for Live Oak, while Jacob Lemoff and Jean Gorby Calicdan were the 2019 class co-valedictorians and Tiffany La was the salutatorian for Sobrato.
A day earlier on June 6, 31 Central High School students were part of the 2019 outdoor celebration at Morgan Hill’s Downtown Amphitheater, earning their diplomas and advancing to the next chapter in their lives. Christopher Andrade and Brenda Flores were Central’s 2019 students of the year. Central graduate Sandra Zamora earned college scholarships from the American Association of University Women and Cal-SOAP.
