In response to the March 22 terrorist attacks in Brussels, Belgium, local transportation authorities are on high alert for any potential threats in Santa Clara County.
The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority issued a statement early this morning as a precaution, although there are currently no known threats in the U.S.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by the events in Brussels,” reads the statement from the VTA. “We are in close consultation with our federal intelligence partners…In an abundance of caution, law enforcement throughout Santa Clara County is on heightened alert. That includes the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office Transit Patrol, which provides security for the VTA system. VTA is well prepared for this type of threat and all front-line employees recently completed ‘All Hazards’ training, a complement to our ‘See Something, Say Something’ campaign.”
Early in the morning March 22, suspected terrorists detonated a series of bombs at the international airport in Brussels, as well as a nearby subway station, according to news reports. At least 30 people were killed by the explosions, and more than 230 were wounded.
