DEAR ABBY: My boyfriend has proposed. I love him very much, but I’m worried about my kids. I look at his children – his son is 23 and barely made it out of high school. He got a girl pregnant at 17, has been in jail a few times and is an alcoholic. His 15-year-old daughter is immature for her age and constantly getting into trouble at school. Their mother is an alcoholic and a drug user. Are my concerns for my children valid? – WORRIED IN WEST VIRGINIA

Even though city hall and developers agree that a nearly four-acre empty lot just outside the downtown Morgan Hill boundary should be developed, and a builder is ready to start the construction process, the city’s strict growth control and affordable housing policies might prevent that from happening any time soon. 

The police report from the July 2011 incident that sparked an internal investigation at the Morgan Hill department shows that officers at the LaRocca Place scene thought two women they arrested later that night were “very intoxicated” as they tried to enter a patrol car.
