The announcement that Union Bank is acquiring Santa Barbara Bank & Trust in a $1.5 billion deal today returned a “business as usual” response from both representatives from each corporation.

Having spent “95 percent” of his coaching time with kids during the summer, Morgan Hill’s Jess Salazar and his wife, Lalani, tried something new this year by organizing what is believed to be the city’s first winter youth bowling program.

Re: the recent story in the Times about a bobcat seen near Easy Street in Morgan Hill.  These beautiful felines are indeed living amongst us.  They’re becoming more “urbanized” because development is encroaching on their native habitats and driving them further into residential areas.  They are searching for food and water.  Bobcats are shy, solitary animals and will not attack humans, if left alone. 

The Gilroy man who’s been in custody since May 2011 for allegedly killing his wife’s 6-week-old Chihuahua puppy was deemed incompetent to continue on to trial – for now at least – according to Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Troy Benson.
