1. New regs a far cry from ‘The Day the Music Died’

The official record books have the brief two-game series between the Sobrato High School and Christopher High School football teams even at one victory apiece.

A series of workshops aimed at bolstering agritourism, enhancing the viability of wineries and clarifying existing laws that regulate the wine industry – a heated process that's left several local vintners feeling like they’ve “been had” under the “pretense of (the county) helping us” – is wrapping up after 12 months and more than a dozen meetings.

For the fourth consecutive year, Live Oak and Gilroy, two schools separated by a short 12 miles, will go head to head and pop the cork on the prep football season.

The city will purchase about $2.5 million worth of fire-fighting equipment, including fire engines, a pumper truck and a 105-foot ladder truck for its new fire and emergency medical services provider, Calfire, who will take over the services as of Jan. 1, 2013.

Friends and family of Tara Romero, the Sobrato High School freshman who was killed in a drive-by shooting in Morgan Hill Nov. 4, 2011, have created a nonprofit called “Everyone’s Child, the Tara Romero Youth Empowerment Project,” to raise money for a public art project in honor of Romero and other fallen teens in the community.
