Trial date set for two suspects in 2011 drive-by killing
Two of the suspects accused of killing Morgan Hill teen Tara Romero in a 2011 drive-by shooting are scheduled to go to trial for murder in San Jose July 29, though that date is likely to be pushed back, according to Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Peter Waite.

Police catch suspected Walmart shoplifterA woman ran out of Wal-mart with a phone she had just stolen from the store at 170 Cochrane Plaza, but police caught up to her and recovered the stolen property, according to police reports. Police arrived to the scene and found the woman walking in the area of Butterfield Boulevard and Diana Avenue, police said. Walmart staff did not want to prosecute the woman, but wanted the stolen phone back. An officer gave the woman a warning to stay away from Wal-mart in the future or she could be prosecuted for trespassing, police said. The crime was reported about 2:34 p.m. June 27. Electronics, shotguns stolen from homeSomeone stole a laptop computer and Playstation video game system when they burglarized a home on Vista Del Valle in east Morgan Hill, police said. Also stolen from the home were two shotguns and an ATM card, according to police reports. The crime was reported about 7:33 p.m. June 27. The resident arrived at the home to find the back door open, then checked the home and determined what had been stolen, according to police. No arrests have been reported in relation to the burglary, according to police reports. Stereo system stolen from parked vehicleSomeone stole a stereo system and speakers from a black Chevrolet Silverado parked on Cochrane Road Friday, police said. The crime was reported about 1:09 p.m., according to police. Passenger plane sited with laserThe crew of an incoming United Express commercial passenger jet reported someone pointed a green laser at the airplane from somewhere in the hills east of Morgan Hill, according to police. The disturbance was reported about 11 p.m. Friday, police reports said. The plane was flying at about 12,000 feet in altitude, inbound to the Mineta San Jose International Airport, police said. No injuries were reported.
One man dead, woman seriously injured in motorcycle accident
Lisa Faria, a 49-year-old agent for Intero Real Estate in Gilroy, remains hospitalized after the motorcycle she was riding on as a passenger was involved in a fatal accident near Hollister.
Armed robbery in Home Goods parking lot
Two men pointed a gun at a 32-year-old woman in the parking lot of Home Goods on Renz Lane at 7 p.m. June 29 and fled on foot with her purse, according to a press release from the Gilroy Police Department. Authorities say the suspects have not been caught.
