It's a messy business, but thanks to the efforts of the Gilroy High School wrestling and basketball teams, along with first-year volunteers New Hope Community Church, those overseeing one of the Garlic Festival's grittiest jobs made trash patrol operate like a well-oiled machine.

Garlic Festival President Dennis Harrigan brought his veterinarian skills to the festival when he saved a service dog from heatstroke on Saturday. 

DEAR ABBY: I travel a lot in my work with animal protection. Often I'll encounter dogs and cats in distress as soon as I reach the airport. Distracted by their own thoughts, their owners seldom realize they're upsetting the pets they're carrying through the terminal.

Due to "pressure from concerned members of the public," family and friends, 22-year-old Colby Worsham – a suspect in connection with three separate burglary incidents this month – self-surrendered to the Morgan Hill Police Department Tuesday for the crimes of burglary, larceny and fraudulent use of credit cards, according to an MHPD press release.

Federal Post Office Inspectors are investigating a rash of burglaries at the Gilroy Post Office as well as other South County and San Benito County locations.
