St. Mary School students dropped and took cover at 10:17 a.m. Thursday, October 17 as part of the school's participation in the Great California ShakeOut earthquake drill. St. Mary School thanks the Gilroy Fire Department for their help with this drill, which comes on the day of the 24th anniversary of the Loma Prieta earthquake. 

The Gilroy Unified School District Board of Education has no plans to vote on the internal administrative decision barring choir concerts from being held in churches, despite opposition from dozens of parents and students who call the decision “ridiculous,” “terrible” and a “shame.”

Angie is a 1-year-old terrier/Chihuahua mix who is sweet and relaxed. She also loves to run around and play. She has been at the San Martin Animal Shelter since August. Call (408) 686-3900.

DEAR ABBY: You gave some nice advice to "Afraid of the Loss" who wrote concerning the impending death of a beloved pet. I think your suggestion of a support group is helpful, but having lost a pet I had for 16 years, I have experienced the deep pain this man will feel.

Halloween seems to bring out the creativity in pet owners who make the cutest, cleverest and funniest costumes for their dogs, big and small, to parade around in. There are even costumes for feline pets, but I wouldn't try putting one on my own cats unless I planned to look like a flesh-torn zombie afterward.
