Beachball

Beachball is my feline master and I can tell you that he is a “one-in-a-million cat! He bounded into our school yard one cool, Monday morning in October of 1998. The entire school at Paradise Valley was in a circle as we sang patriotic songs. My students knew I loved cats, so one of the boys asked permission to snatch him. Beachball spent the entire day, taking turns sleeping on jackets, backpacks, and laps of all the students. He is a tabby and white domestic short-hair with a large head, expressive yellow-green eyes, and quite the pink nose. The students decided to name him Beachball, because he had a large head, but I felt the name fit him, because of the way he “bounced” into our lives!

Bear

Bear is a 5-year-old tortie with personality plus! Her favorite pastime is hiding in a chair, in a box or behind a door for a sneak attack on her humans - or just lounging in daddy’s lap.

Gatsby

When I walked into the San Martin Animal Shelter that August day, I wasn’t sure what I was looking for. I was never much of a cat person and I wasn’t sure if I had room in my heart for another pet, but I was drawn there.

Kiara

It’s difficult to explain why I love Kiara. She has wonderfully silky fur, bright blue eyes and an endearingly curmudgeonly personality.

Snowball

“Snowball” was brought to our home as a kitten by one of our daughter’s friends, as she arrived for a sleepover at our house. Apparently, she couldn’t keep him, and who was I to say no to a pre-teen who so desperately had already fallen in love? (Thanks a lot, Jenna’s Mom).

Jack

Jack was introduced to our family in basket full of kittens that had been abandoned in a field in 2007. A friend of ours rescued the litter and brought them to our school fall festival to find homes for them. We brought him home to our family. With fall leaves on the ground and pumpkins throughout our neighborhood, we named of Jack.

Cooper & Sheldon

Meet Cooper (top right). He is about 10 weeks old. He was found as a stray and taken to the Hollister animal shelter. The girl who found him adopted him, but her father wouldn't let her keep him. She asked friends and coworkers if they knew of anyone who might take him.

Cheeto

Before Cheeto became my cat, he was a cute orange and white stray kitten. He was found in a school for special needs children. One of the children who found him took him to his teacher (my brother-in-law’s sister). She decided to keep him as a class pet. The kids fed and cared for him. But like we all know, school years come to an end.

Figaro

We got Figaro along with his brother 16 years ago. They were each about 6 ounces, furry, helpless creatures with closed eyes and unable to eat or crawl. A veterinarian’s office knew that I took in helpless kitties, bottle fed them, cared for them and let them develop until ready to adopt out and contacted me. Figaro and his brother thrived and were bonded to each other. We weren’t intending to keep them, but didn’t want to break up the pair. When Figaro was 4, his brother died and we kept him. He needed our comfort and his other cat friends. As he has aged, he has been content and mellow. Amazingly, he has pulled through two difficult health issues in the past two and a half years. He initiates play, likes catnip, cuddling and curling up in any box or basket. He has brought me extended comfort as I grieve the recent loss of my two dogs.
