MHPD to conduct DUI checkpoint Dec. 20
Morgan Hill Police, in conjunction with the Santa Clara County “Avoid the 13” impaired driving crackdown, will host a holiday DUI and driver’s license checkpoint Friday, Dec. 20, according to police. The checkpoint will take place at an undisclosed location inside the City limits from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., police said. “Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public,” read a statement from an MHPD press release. Officers will contact drivers passing through the checkpoint, looking for signs of alcohol and drug impairment, police said. Officers will also be checking drivers for proper licensing. The checkpoint is an effort to reduce the likelihood of DUI-related traffic deaths and injuries, according to police. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent. Funding for the checkpoint is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the NHTSA.

Pilots then fired up the engines and successfully completed nine simulated supply missions by noon, accomplishing the day's goals:
