A December 14th article by Jim Connolly, of BBC News Magazine, states that in England, the number of people running on a regular basis has risen by a third since 2005. In England, or possibly the UK, nearly 2 million people are running at least thirty minutes to stay fit. Contrast that with America where, according to the Sports and Fitness Industry Association report (2012), there are approximately 28,651,00 core runners (defined as 50 or more runs/ year).

On Oct. 12, the community welcomed Station 55’s new owners, Shauna and Charles Davis, to downtown Gilroy. Their restaurant is located at 55 Fifth Street. They received enthusiastic support from the fire department, friends, family and the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce.

Full disclosure: I love cats. My family had pet cats for much of my childhood. However, there are far too many feral cats - cats that were once domesticated but have returned to the wild, or ones born in the wild - out there.

DEAR ABBY: I'm a 23-year-old woman in a fantastic relationship with a man two years older. I could fill volumes with all the things I love about him. My problem is I make more money than he does. He earns a good living and is a hard worker, but he constantly says things like, "You're going to leave me for someone who makes more money than I do," or, "Your parents don't think I'm good enough for you because I didn't go to college."

DEAR ABBY: For 17 years I have been using the same hairstylist, "Marietta," because she does great cuts and color. She's married to my cousin "Gil," but not for long. They're divorcing.

DEAR ABBY: Last week, my best friend, "Lana," tried to kill herself. I'm not sure anyone else knows. Her brother beats her, and her mom yells at her for being "ungrateful" when she asks to spend a night elsewhere. My family has offered several times to let Lana live with us, as have her grandparents. After this week, I have begged her to. She still refuses.

Sobrato had three players in double figures as the girls basketball team won its third game this season, 51-40 over Milpitas Friday.

Sobrato’s defense led the way in a 47-14 win over Fairfield to open the Cupertino Tournament on Thursday.

DEAR ABBY: I live in a fairly well-to-do neighborhood on a cul-de-sac. There has been an increase in the traffic on my street, and I suspect it's because a neighbor's adult son has been selling drugs. Most of the cars are driven by young people who park for five to 10 minutes at the most, and all of them walk around to the back of the house. Hypodermic needles have been found in the street.
