There has been a lot of discussion lately about the critical role apex predators play in the ecosystem. An apex predator is one at the top of the food chain, or one who “as an adult, has no natural predator within its ecosystem.” In Santa Clara County, apex predators would include mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes, hawks, falcons and large owls.

Students learn history from the trenches

It is a gray, wet afternoon as rain drips through the redwoods on the Mount Madonna School (MMS) campus. A group of 10th- and 11th-grade students are spotted bustling outside of their classroom, full of nerves and anticipation. Most are adorned in camouflage with black smudges of paint under their eyes. To the casual observer it might appear that these students are preparing for a theatrical production. In reality, this is the beginning of a reenactment of trench warfare and is the culmination of a unit examining World War I in teacher Amy Neff's social studies course.

He was arrested and booked at Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of being drunk in public, obstruction of justice and brandishing a replica firearm in public.Police urge residents not to remove or alter a toy gun by removing a portion of it so it resembles a real firearm. Doing so could lead law enforcement officers and witnesses to view the toy gun as real, exposing a threat to the owner of the toy gun and the public. The city of Morgan Hill has ordinances prohibiting the possession and display of replica firearms or any other type of imitation weapons on public property, in the right of way or an area where it can be viewed from public property, according to police.Anyone with information about this incident can contact MHPD at (408) 779-2101 or the anonymous tip line at (408) 947-7867.
