In order to make an informed decision on a construction management firm to oversee the construction of Sobrato High School, the Morgan Hill Board of Education is holding a special meeting Monday night.

The seven-member board, which has three new members, will meet at 6 p.m. in the District Office to discuss the selection of a firm. At the Nov. 18 board meeting, before the three new trustees were seated, the board voted 3-3 on the question of continuing with Jacobs, Inc., the firm who has handled the renovations at Live Oak High and the construction of Barrett Elementary.

Board President Jan Masuda was absent. Trustee Tom Kinoshita, board vice president, voted for approval, as well as Trustees Del Foster and Russ Danielson. Trustees Rick Herder, John Kennett and George Panos voted against.

During the Dec. 9 meeting, new Trustees Mike Hickey, Amina Khemici and Shellé Thomas were sworn in, along with incumbent Kinoshita. The issue of a construction management firm was again on the agenda but was tabled in order to allow the new trustees to study the situation. Thomas requested district staff to provide a workshop; the result is Monday’s special meeting.

The two items are on the agenda for Monday: “Comparison of proposals from Turner Construction Company and Jacobs Facilities, Inc. for construction management services for Ann Sobrato High School” as a “Presentation Discussion;” and scheduling dates for board study sessions on the role of the board, board goals and the 2003-2004 budget as an action item.

The Morgan Hill Board of Education will hold a meeting at 6 p.m. Monday in the District Office, 15600 Concord Circle. Details: 201-6023.
