Traffic Light Gripe

“What is it with the traffic signal at Sutter Boulevard and Cochrane Road? Specifically, I’m referring to the left-turn light on westbound Sutter Boulevard to southbound Cochrane Road. On numerous occasions, I have sat at that light for what seems like f-o-r-e-v-e-r waiting for a green arrow. The other lights for traffic going in all other possible directions cycle through several times before that dang left-turn light turns green. It is infuriating. Most of the time I just hang a U-turn against the red when the coast is clear and I’ve checked for the absence of Morgan Hill police. Please, if you could find out what the problem is with this light from the powers that be, I’d really appreciate it. I’m sure I’m not the only one that would like to know. Thanks.”

RED PHONE

The Red Phone put in a call to Mori Struve, deputy director of the Morgan Hill Public Works Department, to find out what’s up with the traffic light at this intersection. Struve immediately made a call the city’s new signal maintenance contractor to get the problem cleared up. And just as quickly, the contractor headed out to Cochrane Road, located and identified the problem with the traffic signal and corrected it. Caller, you will be happy to know that because of your call, neither you nor any other drivers will be held up needlessly at this intersection anymore.

Cartoon Not For Children

“I was going to rant about how some people shouldn’t bring their young kids to movies like ‘The Simpsons Movie,’ but some of these people are OK about taking their kids to R-rated movies, so why waste my time on people who are such great parents? Enjoy your movie going experience folks, you know who you are.”

RED PHONE

The Red Phone attended a showing of this movie last week and was surprised by the number of small children at The Simpsons movie, and this was at a late show. But, you’re wrong about the dysfunctional Springfield family movie being R-rated. It’s actually PG-13, still no excuse for the young audience. While much of the animated content is fairly elementary, it gets its rating for irreverent humor throughout – but what else would you expect from Homer and his animated cronies?

The Red Phone’s crimson cape gets even redder when learning about parents who take their underage children, such as those 13 and under to PG-13, restricted and NC-17-rated movies. Movies with these ratings, as Red Phone has stated in the past, contain material not suitable for children and parents and guardians are strongly cautioned against exposing their children to their content, which is often violent and obscene.

On the Trail

“Are the little white things on raisins in trail mix worms? I know there are some little pieces of the nuts, but this is something more. I had gotten a bag of trail mix at Costco and it looked to me like worms on the raisins. I remember years ago when my mom had bought a box of raisins at the store, she got home and opened the box to include the raisins in her bread pudding, there were little white things on the raisins and she said they were worms and took them back to the store. I love trail mix, and would like to know for sure if perhaps it is worms.”

RED PHONE

The Red Phone called Costco to ask about your worm suspicions. Store manager Steve Alexander directed us to Christine Summers, a food biologist. She says the trail mix is coated with a dextrose spray at the packing plant, which is used so the raisins don’t stick to the rest of the contents in the bag. When it dries, the sugar forms little white dots on the raisins that resemble worms. So enjoy your trail mix, caller … it’s perfectly safe.
