Traffic on Pacheco Pass Highway east of Gilroy is finally on the
verge of getting better. But before it improves, it might get
worse. On Nov. 30, The Valley Transportation Authority plans to
select a winning bid for the long-delayed widening of Highway 152
from just west of Gilroy Foods to Llagas Creek.
Traffic on Pacheco Pass Highway east of Gilroy is finally on the verge of getting better. But before it improves, it might get worse.
On Nov. 30, The Valley Transportation Authority plans to select a winning bid for the long-delayed widening of Highway 152 from just west of Gilroy Foods to Llagas Creek. Assuming a reasonable bid is accepted, the VTA will recommend a contract to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors at their Dec. 9 meeting, allowing work to begin in May after potential flood dangers have passed.
The VTA and county supervisors have scheduled a public forum Tuesday to discuss South Valley projects, including Pacheco Pass Highway improvements, transit systems and bike routes. The meeting begins at 6:30pm at the county Government Center in San Jose.
The forum is for the public to comment on VTP 2030 and transportation priorities in Santa Clara County. The Valley Transportation Authority’s Measure A, passed by voters in 2000, provides the basis for VTP 2030.
The 30-year half-cent sales tax goes into effect in April 2006. Current projections show a funding shortfall over the life of the plan, impacting both current service levels and such projects as the BART extension and the Downtown East Valley Light Rail Project.
Santa Clara County Supervisor and VTA Chairman Don Gage said Thursday that the $23-million project “is a go.”
