Three parolees were arrested when police found drugs in the vehicle in which they were traveling Friday morning.

Police stopped a maroon 1992 Honda Accord because it displayed an expired license tag about 11:10 a.m. on Old Monterey Road near Berkshire Drive, Morgan Hill Police Sgt. Jerry Neumayer said.

During the traffic stop, the officer suspected that the three occupants appeared to be under the influence of drugs, Neumayer said. Police searched the car, in which were found about one gram of methamphetamine, 11 grams of marijuana, prescription pills and a hypodermic needle.

The pills were not prescribed to any of the people in the car, Neumayer said.

Arrested were Kevin Gitmed, 25 of Gilroy, on suspicion of possession of a needle, possession of a false prescription, and being in violation of parole; Antonio Espinoza, 31 of Gilroy, on suspicion of possession of marijuana; and April Schanding, 26 of Morgan Hill, on suspicion of parole violation. All three were booked on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
