acquainted with the area, the Morgan Hill Library is a great place
to learn about Morgan Hill and Santa Clara County. We have a
collection of books, many of them long out of print, written about
our community
’s history. We also have, on microfilm, a collection of the
Morgan Hill Times newspaper going back to January of 1898.

We have collected many years of local middle school and high school yearbooks, including a copy of Live Oak High School’s La Encina from 1908.
Over the years librarians and local history buffs have put together clipping files of articles on local historic buildings, businesses, and personalities. These are a treasure trove of information for the amateur historian.
The library is a great place to learn about Morgan Hill City government, here you will find; agendas for upcoming meetings and hearings, videos of the most recent city council meetings, municipal code, general plans, audits, tax assessor information on microfiche and much more.
Those of you doing business and property research should know you’ll find phone books and Polk’s city directories from past years, as well as current Haines Criss+Cross Directories, and a variety of local maps, including Thomas’s Guides.
Much of this material can be checked out and some of it must be used in the library. The reference librarians will be happy to show you these resources.
Behind the library, at 600 W. Main Ave., history sleuths will find the Morgan Hill Historical Museum, operated by the Morgan Hill Historical Society. Call 779-5755 for hours. It is worth a trip. Another place of historical interest is Villa Mira Monte, the old Morgan Hill House, 17860 Monterey Rd. It is owned and operated by the Historical Society and is open for tours Friday afternoons and Saturdays 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Call 782-7191 for details.
