Dear Editor,
My June 17 letter to the editor is a rigorously edited version of a letter I submitted to your publication and read to the Morgan Hill Unified School Board of Trustees on March 28, almost three months ago.
The timing of the letter is disappointing because its main purpose was obviated two weeks ago when the principal of Britton Middle School announced his departure effective the end of this school year.Â
Representing the opinion of virtually the entire Britton staff, my address to the school board in March had requested that the district administration investigate the unusually detrimental effects of the principal’s leadership there. For fear of retribution, teachers would not individually voice that request publicly.Â
The reasons for the principal’s departure have not been announced, but remaining Britton staff are nevertheless relieved. However, as a direct consequence of the principal’s leadership this year, seven professional staff and one custodian will not be returning next school year, representing a significant loss of educational resources to Britton and the MHUSD.
Teachers at Britton and elsewhere in the district remain concerned about continuing unprecedented staff and schedule changes imposed or endorsed by the district administration, so vigilance by the school board is still warranted and strongly encouraged by us the community stakeholders.Â
We all want to ensure that the collective educational resources of our community are managed so we maximize the effectiveness of the learning environment in our public schools. And we all want to ensure that information we read in The Times is timely.
Peter Anderson, Morgan Hill
