MH Raider Junior Midgets 33, Almaden Chargers 6
Seeded No. 2 in the playoffs, the local Junior Midgets squad had to play in the first round as Pop Warner elected to send seven teams to the postseason, giving only the top seed a bye.
Facing the seventh seed, Morgan Hill sweep aside any Almaden hopes by scoring three times in the first half of a 33-6 blowout.
The Raiders nearly had a shutout except they exceeded the 28-point courtesy score, going up 33-0 and gave up a mercy touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
For MH, James Hamblin scored on a 12 yard run, while Jeffery Roberts scored twice and Garret Duarte caught a touchdown from Brandon Gustin.
Robert Fiscillini III scored the final points on a 36-yard pass from Felix Otra Jr.
The Raiders now advance to the second round of the playoffs, playing Menlo Artherton in Redwood City on Sunday.
MH Raider Jr. Pee Wees 13, Almaden Chargers 0
In their first-round game, the local Junior Pee Wees scored a touchdown in each half while blanking the Almaden Chargers 13-0.
With the win the Raiders will face the Sunnyvale Black Knights in the second round of the playoffs.
Sunnyvale handed the Raiders their first loss of the season three weeks ago while wrestling the second seed away from Morgan Hill.
MH’s Darren Diaz scored the first touchdown on a 35-yard pass from Jerry Jacob. Deric Taylor scored on a one-yard run in the second half.
MH Raider Pee Wee Black 28, Silver 0
The MH Raiders Black team rolled over Silver in a first-round playoff game, despite talk that this was Silver’s year to surpass its local rivals.
The Black team opened the game with a 60-yard drive for a TD and just flat out rolled over the over-matched Silver team.
The Black team’s offensive line was the key to its success, and the defense shut out the Silver for the first time this year, and holding the opposition to 28 yards of total offense and zero yards passing.
