Morgan Hill – Several serious accidents in the Morgan Hill area have sent four people to hospitals over a three-day period.

The spate of collisions began early Sunday morning with a single-vehicle accident.

Renee Silveira, 48, of Morgan Hill, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and alleged hit and run after she was treated for minor injuries.

Silveira was driving southbound on Monterey Road just south of Cochrane Road, allegedly speeding and swerving, at approximately 12:20am. She lost control of her truck and hit a light pole just south of the railroad trestle near the intersection of Old Monterey Road.

The light pole was sheared off, and Silveira was treated for minor injuries.

Monday afternoon, a head-on collision on Monterey Road at Wright Ave. sent two people to the hospital. According to Morgan Hill police Sgt. David Swing, William Adams, 87, of San Jose was driving northbound on Monterey Road on his way back to San Jose.

“He was observed by witnesses to be swerving; he may have had a medical emergency,” Swing said. “He lost control of his vehicle and crossed into oncoming traffic.”

Adam’s Buick Century smashed headlong into a Honda driven by Karen Leff of Morgan Hill. The impact pushed the Honda into a parked Villager.

Swing said Adams, who was transported by helicopter to San Jose Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, wasn’t cited pending the results of the investigation. Leff was first taken to Saint Louise Regional Hospital, then later flown to San Jose Regional in serious condition.

Tuesday, a San Jose woman was injured in a single vehicle accident on Highway 101. According to the California Highway Patrol report, Yong McDaniel, 60, was traveling southbound in a Dodge Grand Caravan south of Coyote Creek Golf Drive at approximately 65mph.

The minivan’s left rear tire blew, and McDaniel was unable to gain control of the vehicle, according to the report. It spun around and off the west side of the highway up the dirt embankment, rolling several times. It stopped on the embankment facing northeast.

McDaniels’ left forearm and arm were severely injured in the crash. She was extricated from the minivan and flown to Stanford Medical Center.

The accident is not a result of alcohol or drugs, according to the report, and McDaniel was wearing a seatbelt. There were no passengers in the van and no other vehicles involved in the accident.
