Daily Bagel opens in Tennant Station
Local bagel lovers now have another option to fulfill their doughy cravings with the opening of Daily Bagel in Tennant Station.

The family-owned and operated shop threw open its doors for the first time Aug. 17, but didn’t raise a large fuss about the opening – just a small sign reading “Grand Opening” on their front window.

Hai Phan, general manager and son of owners Chanh Phan and Thao Nyuyen, said their goal for the cafe is to offer people a convenient location to satisfy their morning bagel and coffee fix.

“I had one customer come in and say he no longer had to go Gilroy to get a bagel,” Phan said.

Phan and his family are all San Jose residents, but they said they liked what they saw in Morgan Hill and decided to open here.

“There was just an opportunity here,” Phan said. “People can come by after a movie and get a cup of coffee.”

Daily Bagel opens its doors at 5:30am every morning and promises freshly baked bagels and a full espresso bar.

When the shop closes, however, is up to their customers, Phan said. He thinks the cafe will stay open until about 8pm, but wants to see how traffic is before making a decision.

“We’re still deciding how late to stay open,” Phan said. “Closing time might be extended; it depends on the customers.”

To peak curiosity prior to opening, Daily Bagel posted a sign outside their shop and invited potential patrons to poke their noses into the new shop.

“People came by each day last week asking about the shop,” Phan said. “We gave away some discounts and free samples.”

News of the shop, Phan said, spread by word of mouth and soon, a steady stream of customers came throughout the day.

Daily Bagel offers up to 28 varieties of bagels with some flavors only available on a rotation basis to give customers something different each time they visit.

Phan said they offer the traditional bagels, such as plain and sesame seed, as well as gourmet flavors, including jalepeno cheddar and pesto.

For the late risers, Daily Bagel offers a selection of sandwiches, but stops making bagels by 5pm. Eventually, the shop will offer a take-out menu.

For now, Phan is focusing on creating a customer base and an inviting setting for people to come and unwind.

“We are looking to create comfortable atmosphere for people,” Phan said. “I want to get to know our regulars. We want this to be a more relaxing atmosphere that people are looking for.”
