Open the clubface slightly at address. A low-bounce lob or sand wedge works best for this shot. Take the club back with little or no wrist break. The idea is to slide the club head through the grass under the ball.

Wrist action and a descending or chopping swing path will cut the grass, slowing the club head and eliminating touch. Taking a long flowing back swing, sweep the club head forward below the ball at a slow, but continuous motion.

Follow through with a long flowing swing and the ball will land softly on the green. You’ll need to practice this shot to increase your confidence in your ability to execute the flop shot.
