CAUTION-SCHOOL ZONE
I’ve called in multiple times, and you’ve done wonderfully about the problem of speeding in school zones. Last year, it was, “they don’t have enough officers” or whatever. The speeding is still going on. At Nordstrom Elementary School, they park in the red zone which makes it extremely dangerous to pull out into East Dunne Avenue. The police department says that Dunne Avenue is not a busy street, but it is.
I just went by a short time ago, and I don’t know if it was a child, but someone was being loaded into an ambulance with three police cars there and a fire truck. Something’s gotta be done about it.
Somebody was hurt today or somebody will be hurt in the future.
The police department has plenty of personnel to cover the streets from 1:45-2pm to slow these people down.
You wrote something last year – they said they couldn’t do that because the bad guys get out at 2pm. Well, the bad guys are out all the time. We need to protect our children.
I tried to get through to the police department with this problem again and again. I talked to a very nice lady who said “why don’t you call the hotline” and gave me the number, so I called it. I got a recording that said we’ll get back to you within the week. It’s now been three weeks, and I still have not heard. They have enough officers I think to keep the kids protected.
RED PHONE: Watch Cmdr. Sgt. Jerry Neumayer has informed the Crimsom Crusader that the Morgan Hill Police Department now has a new Traffic Enforcement Unit that has been in existence for more than a week. Their new motorcycles are sure to be a part of this effort.
The department also has a program called directed enforcement. Concerned residents call in to alert the police about problem areas that may need special law enforcement attention. If we all work together, we can make our community a safer place to live.
