Dear Editor,

On Sunday, August 21, in the vicinity of Blockbuster Video, I was accosted by two strangers approximately twice my size, and twice my age.

The two men verbally harassed and threatened me with physical harm. It started at the intersection of Dunne Ave. as I was using the crosswalk. While I walked my dog to the video store, a man shouted verbal assaults at me from his car, accusing me of being cruel and torturous to my beloved friend, a 2-year-old yellow lab.

I quickly pointed out that he was mistaken and suggested that he belay his worries, he was obviously overzealous.

He then followed me to the video store and continued to verbally harass me with vulgar assaults and physical threats, as I was giving my dog water. There upon he was joined by another man said to be his brother.

The two men’s behavior was deplorable and down right criminal. I was in fear for my own safety, and the safety of my dog. Upon calling the local police their behavior turned less vulgar, turning the story calmly against me. The police officer that responded to the call was very professional, and controlled the situation well. However, if it had not been for the innocent bystanders watching in awe as the two men assaulted me with their misguided, and malicious vigilante behavior, the situation might have turned out differently.

The witnesses bravely helped persuade the officer that the two men were in the wrong, and I was being wrongly accused. I want to thank the witnesses that stood up for me in the parking lot. I also hope the men that accused me so vindictively, can see how abusive they were to a situation that was not as they perceived it, and recognize that their reprehensible actions can harm those they victimize.

I also feel that however professional the officer held himself, not enough was done. The two men should have been charged with assault. Thank you again to those that helped and didn’t turn a blind eye.
