Dear Editor,

It was a proud moment for the Teachers Aid Coalition (TAC) of Morgan Hill as President Raymond Jiminez and Vice President Roger Beaulieu received from Mayor Dennis Kennedy a city proclamation on behalf of TAC Steering Committee members Kiki Nakauchi, Bob Davis, Irma Torrez, Barbara Neal, Christine Lewis, Sandra Snively and Jon Hatakeyama at the Oct. 20 council meeting. This proclamation acknowledged TAC’s efforts to bring donated school and classroom supplies to local public school teachers.

TAC would like to publicly thank the Council for helping TAC spread the word of our classroom needs via the city publication City Connections. This brought more public awareness of the plight of our teachers. TAC would especially like to acknowledge Mayor Kennedy for his past and present involvement with this grassroots organization’s effort, noting he was present at the initial TAC kick-off in 1999 and was an inspiration in this year’s School Supply Give Away.

The City Council has shown its willingness to help public education by moving forward immediately with the construction of a larger, better community library. This library will be very pivotal as school district funding makes operating their own school libraries difficult.

TAC welcomes donations of photocopy paper, writing materials, Kleenex and other classroom supplies. They also welcome volunteers and cash/check donations, as well as participation by companies and retail businesses. Contact Raymond Jiminez at 683-4495 or Roger Beaulieu at 779-5308 for further information.
