Dear Editor,
Thank you very much to the caring community of people who contributed very generously to the huge annual Thanksgiving Can Food Drive sponsored by the Live Oak High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).
Your help made it possible to truly give thanks and a happier Thanksgiving to 125 underprivileged families in the Morgan Hill Unified School District.
It all started when students stood in front of four grocery stores in Morgan Hill and collected cans and monetary donations all day on Saturday, Nov. 12, and Sunday, Nov. 13. (Approximately 70 students were involved.)
In addition, students at Live Oak High School contributed approximately 3,000 cans and some money to the collection.
The monetary donations were used primarily to purchase 125 turkeys, non perishables, additional cans, rice, beans, tortillas, and bread.
Everything was sorted and packed into 125 huge apple boxes, each weighing approximately 70-75 pounds, on November 2l and 22 after school with the help of about 50 students. In addition, another grocery bag full was added for each family plus a loaf of bread and a turkey.
Deliveries were made to the homes of the 125 families on Thanksgiving Eve, Nov. 23, with the Lions Club members as the drivers who took two or three students with them.
A lasting impression was created for some of the students when they actually saw the conditions right in their back yard.
Your help in making this all possible was very much appreciated.
