Sobrato juniors upset No. 1 seed in division title match

SAN JOSE — Sobrato High School’s top two singles ended up being the best doubles team in their division.
Juniors Zach Thomas and Tyler Pecsok on Monday completed a perfect run through the Santa Teresa Division Doubles Tournament with an upset victory, 6-1, 7-5, over the host No. 1 seed from Pioneer in the championship match.
Thomas and Pecsok, both third-year starters, advanced to the May 17-18 Blossom Valley Athletic League Tournament, a qualifier for the Central Coast Section Singles/Doubles Contest.
It will be Thomas’ second trip to BVALs and first since 2008 when he reached the doubles sectional as a freshman, playing with 2008 Sobrato alumnus Jarom Warren.
