Dear Editor,

It is with great relief that I write this letter commending the decision of the City Council to work with the Morgan Hill Historical Society in helping to preserve the Acton House Museum building.

I read with great concern the recent article in the Morgan Hill Times disclosing the disposition of the museum building and that the city was proposing to demolish or sell the little house museum into private ownership.

Please understand that when my late husband and I donated the Acton House to the city of Morgan Hill, it was with the understanding that the building would be used as the city’s museum.

Since that time in the mid 1980’s, the Morgan Hill Historical Society has, on behalf of the community, successfully operated the museum and built on the exhibits and displays contained therein.

I am pleased that the city is going to build a new library, but it is unfortunate that the Acton House Museum will need to be relocated to complete this venture as I believe that the Civic Center is still appropriate location for our museum.

In light of the fact that keeping the Acton House Museum at the Civic Center location is not feasible then I, as a citizen of Morgan Hill, support relocating the Acton House to the Hiram Morgan Hill House at Villa Mira Monte property so that the museum may continue to be held for the benefit of the Morgan Hill community and open to the public.

I applaud the Morgan Hill Historical Society for its dedication in helping to preserve Morgan Hill’s history.

Ida Williams, Morgan Hill
