Each month, the principals of Live Oak and Sobrato High Schools choose a total of four students (two from each school) to spotlight. Live Oak senior Kyle van den Brand Horninge, 17, is this week’s Student of the Week.
What inspires you? The people that inspire me the most are my late grandparents. My grandma was diagnosed with ALS 4 years before she passed away. Through the fight with this disease both my grandma and my grandpa taught me to never give up, no matter how hard life gets.
What is your favorite subject in school? I do not have a favorite overall subject in school but I love creative writing. I love to write stories because it lets people see the world through my eyes and through the eyes of my characters.
If you had the power to change one thing in the world, what would it be? If I had the power to change one thing in the world I would make everyone know that God loves them no matter what they do and there is always hope. “Keep yourself in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.” Jude 1:21
If I could go anywhere, where would you go? I would visit every country in the world to see how other people live compared to the United State, just to see how fortunate I really am.
Name one big challenge in your life right now: The biggest challenge in my life right now is making sure I don’t fall behind in my classes so I can graduate.
What is your dream job? My dream job is to be a U.S. Navy SEAL and serve my country above and beyond my abilities.
If you were stuck on a deserted island, what three things could you not live without? If I was stuck on a deserted island I would not be able to live without: my iPod, my Bible, and my sunglasses.
Favorite book: My favorite book is “Lone Survivor” by Marcus Luttrell
Plans after high school: After high school I am attending San Jose State University to study Business and Finance.
Something that makes you smile: Seeing someone fulfill their dreams is something that makes me smile.
