Jessica Yanez, a 17-year-old senior at Ann Sobrato High School, is this week’s “Student of the Week.”
What inspires you?
My family is what inspires me because they have always motivated me to do my best and to never give up on my dreams. I come from a family of seven and without a doubt, both of my parents dedicate much of their time to help us succeed.
Favorite subject in school:
My favorite subject in school is math. Since I began school, math has always been an easy subject.
If you had the power to change one thing in the world:
It it would be education. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to receive high quality education and have access to help when they need it the most.
If you could go anywhere, where would you go?
Spain. My roots are stationed in Spain and I’ve never been there; I hope I will have the opportunity to study abroad there during my college education years.
Name one big challenge in your life right now:
One current challenge would be taking the hardest class on campus; AP Physics. I know time and effort will pay off since it’s a class I would probably take considering the fact that I want to go into computer science.
What’s your dream job?
My dream job is to be a math or science professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston, MA.
If you were stuck on a deserted island, what three things could you not live without?
The three items I could not live without are water, a journal, and a reading book. I wouldn’t want to be bored.
Favorite book:
“The Great Gatsby.”
Plans post high school:
To major in computer science and work in the Silicon Valley within five to six years.
Something that makes you smile:
Preforming with my mariachi band is something that makes me smile. There has never been a dull moment when I play the violin with my mariachi family.
Students are selected by their principals.
