These Acorns are living right. A bases-loaded error on a routine
throw from the shortstop to the catcher in the bottom of the
seventh, and final, inning gave the Live Oak High baseball team a
4-3 victory over Salinas yesterday.
“We had them all the way,” LO coach Mark Cummins said jokingly
after the game. Coupled with Wednesday’s 18-2 win at Salinas,
Friday’s victory kept the Acorns (7-3 overall, 4-0 in TCAL unbeaten
in league play two weeks in.

“We had them all the way,” LO coach Mark Cummins said jokingly after the game.
Coupled with Wednesday’s 18-2 win at Salinas, Friday’s victory kept the Acorns (7-3 overall, 4-0 in TCAL unbeaten in league play two weeks in.
Unlike the first three TCAL contests, in which the Acorns outscored their opponents 55-2, Friday’s game was a battle.
Salinas took a 2-0 lead in the first inning off starter Kyle Ferguson and rallied to tie the game at 3-3 in the third.
But Cummins said his team seemed determined not to lose, showing a resilience the coach said may have been born after Monday’s disappointing 12-0 loss at Willow Glen in non-league action.
“I think that loss to Willow Glen was a low point, and they came out on a mission on Wednesday, and that carried over to today,” Cummins said.
On Wednesday, Kyle Mosbrucker tossed a one-hitter and the Acorns piled up 15 hits.
