After the completion of every game, Live Oak High senior Jaime Martinez joins his teammates in a single-file line for the traditional post-game handshake with the opposing team. Martinez usually receives compliments from the opposing coach, including one who referred to him as sonic—as in Sonic the Hedgehog, the popular video game franchise that featured a protagonist who could run and jump at high speeds.

Relay for Life Team Honors Their Young Survivor
For the past four years, Carden Academy has participated in Morgan Hill's Relay for Life as a way to honor the courage and triumph of their principal, Geralyn Vasquez, who is a breast cancer survivor. This year, the student team is walking to honor another member of the Carden Academy family, Brandon Pride, who at five years of age, is already a cancer survivor. He is a member of the junior kindergarten class.
