Dear Editor,

Please help us in sustaining the arts in our schools. Although each school may have varying art programs, we are all dangerously short of funds to keep supplies available for our students.

In an effort to close the gap we are left with, Paradise Valley Elementary School and others in the Morgan Hill School District are working together to host our second annual “Sustain the Arts” event. The fundraiser takes place at the historic Machado Schoolhouse and grounds on Friday, May 6 from 6-10pm. There will be an outdoor barbecue, indoor buffet and dancing to the Jimmy Dewrance Blues Band. Student artwork from various schools participating will be showcased for purchase. We hope to offer both a silent and a live auction, depending on the size and scope of works the schools provide.

The arts enable students to express their creativity, and connect with their heritage and culture. They also help develop skills unmet through other disciplines, such as aesthetic perception through multi-sensory experiences. It is our hope that the Morgan Hill community will also embrace our commitment in keeping the arts active in our schools by supporting us in this fundraiser.

We are in need of sponsors to make this event a reality. A donation of any amount would be greatly appreciated to help cover our event cost, and as a contributor, you will be supporting the sustainability of the arts in our classrooms. Not only is this support invaluable, it will also show your commitment to the children of Morgan Hill. Donations may be made out to Paradise Valley School, Attn: Sustain the Arts, 1400 La Cross Drive, Morgan Hill, CA 95037. For more information, contact me at 408-782-6880.
