Spaces still open for Citizens Police Academy

Space is still available for the fall 2012 session of the Morgan Hill Citizens Police Academy, but spots are likely to fill up quickly.
The popular program starts October 30 and is open to Morgan Hill residents who are interested in learning more about their local police department. Applicants must all be screened and approved by academy coordinators, and not all will be approved, according to coordinator and Morgan Hill Emergency Services director Jennifer Ponce.
The Citizens Police Academy gives participants an up-close and personal look at police work and the Morgan Hill police department’s operations, equipment and services. The 12-week, 37-hour course is designed to build partnerships between police and the community by allowing citizens to participate in practical police training.
Participants learn about topics such as police hiring and training, internal investigations, criminal law, patrol operations, communications, crime prevention, crime analysis, firearms training, critical incidents, narcotics and gang enforcement, traffic enforcement and more.
Graduates will be eligible to join the MHPD’s Volunteers in Policing program.
