ANOTHER DANGEROUS INTERSECTION

“Since the opening of the Morgan Hill Bowling Alley, cars are now parking along Vineyard Boulevard and this makes it very difficult for drivers to see westbound traffic as they pull out into the street. This intersection is between Safeway and the bowling alley as you leave the parking lot. I witnessed a near collision between a motorcycle and another vehicle just the other day.”

RED PHONE

The red phone visited the intersection in question and agrees that it is a little difficult to see the oncoming traffic unless you pull halfway into the street. The red phone talked with Morgan Hill’s Public Works Deputy Director Mori Struve about how to go about improving areas like this.

Struve informed us that the first step is for the concerned person to call his office with the complaint or suggestion and he will send out the appropriate people to size up the situation. This particular problem may be solved with something as simple as a set back area from the driveway marked off with a red curb to improve visibility at the intersection. It all starts with that first phone call.

ATTRACTIVE NUISANCE

“An open 40-pound bag of dog food has been lying on the driveway of 485 Corte Cabas for some time. Last week, there were two open bags. I am assuming the rats have already carried the other bag away. Can something be done to get the resident to clean up this mess? It is an open invitation to all kinds of nefarious critters.”

RED PHONE

Sounds like something no one would like happening in their neighborhood, caller.

The Red Phone once again visited Morgan Hill Code Enforcement officer John Amos to get this one settled. Amos informed us that a situation where food is left out in the open would be covered by the city’s nuisance ordinance, which states that this activity violates health, safety, and/or environmental protection statutes of the city.

Amos would need a formal complaint submitted in writing to his office at City Hall to get started clearing up this matter. You could use the Web site e-service center at www.morganhill.ca.gov to obtain the correct form, or you can fax the complaint to Amos at (408) 779-7236 or drop the form off at his office at City Hall, 17555 Peak Ave.

PARADE COULD HAVE USED SOME MUSIC

“The Morgan Hill Wind Symphony concert was fantastic. Why was it not advertised in your paper, or did I just miss it?

Our family attended the Hoilday Lights parade in downtown Morgan Hill, but there was no Christmas music! I think the entire parade would have benefitted by having music on loud speakers during the otherwise beautiful procession.

On yet another subject, if you want to see people breaking the law constantly, go to the stop sign at Vineyard Boulevard and LaCrosse Drive. Most drivers are not stopping as they should.”

RED PHONE

You must have missed the calendar item announcing the Morgan Hill Wind Symphony in the Dec. 1 issue of the Morgan Hill Times. We try to include all the concerts that are planned in our community for the holidays.

The Red Phone is trying to contact Barbara Kimmich, chairwoman for the Holiday Lights parade. At presstime, we have not been able to talk with her concerning the lack of music during the parade. We’ll keep trying and print our answer in a later Red Phone column.

It seems there are many careless drivers in Morgan Hill that ignore not only pedestrians at times, but stop signs as well. Morgan Hill police Sgt. David Swing reminds the public that this activity should be reported to the police by using the traffic hotline, (408) 776-0640. To address these kinds of problems, the task is handed off to the traffic unit. The traffic hotline is monitored by traffic officers and they will call the person back if a contact phone number is left and provide enforcement action as needed.

If you see something going on that rubs you the wrong way, let us know about it. Then again, if you like something about your town, let us know about that, too! Contact Red Phone at (408) 779-4106, ext. 206, or e-mail re******@*************es.com. Remember to leave a name and phone number when you call or e-mail. The Red Phone will not publish this information and will only use it for verification purposes.
