Rumors of a stabbing or other serious injury resulting from a fight Sept. 24 at the new Sobrato High School are untrue, according to Sobrato High Principal Rich Knapp.

“We called the ambulance and had him taken to the hospital as a precaution,” Knapp said. “The one boy was hit hard enough so there was some swelling, and we didn’t want to taken any chances.”

The victim was taken by ambulance to Kaiser Santa Teresa Hospital. He returned to campus approximately one hour after the incident, Knapp said, and returned to class.

The altercation took place during first period, and Knapp said it seemed to be about a CD.

“One of the students accused the other of taking his CD,” Knapp said.

“There were no weapons involved, only fists.”

The student who instigated the event was cited by police and taken off campus.

Superintendent Carolyn McKennan said Knapp acted appropriately by calling for the ambulance.

“When it comes to our students, we always err on the side of caution,” she said.

Knapp said he was glad the incident was not more serious.

“We just wanted to make sure the student was okay.”
