Morgan Hill – Sobrato’s girls soccer team has started its season strong going 1-0-1 in its first two games.

The Bulldogs opened up with a 4-1 win against North Salinas on Thursday at home. They followed that up with a 0-0 tie against South San Francisco High School on Saturday in a Burlingame tournament.

In the game against North Salinas, Sobrato took a 1-0 first half lead. It then scored three more times in the second half and yielded one goal to the Vikings.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Katie Alton, who scored twice. She was joined by Alex Seda and Maureen King who each added a goal.

First-year coach Stephanie Pearson said her girls were in control the entire game, especially in the second half.

“We definitely dominated,” Pearson said. “We had possession most of the time and our goalie had some spectacular saves.”

Goal keeper Katrina Olson allowed just one goal when the Vikings took a shot from 20 yards out that got past her.

Two days later, Olson did not allow a ball to get by her and led the Bulldogs to a 0-0 tie.

Pearson said the team came out a little flat compared to the North Salinas game.

“The girls didn’t play as well,” Pearson said. “I thought we would do a better job.”

Pearson, however, said she was still pleased with the effort form Olson.

“Katrina came up with some huge saves in goal,” Pearson said. “She did a really great job.”

Pearson said Olson got in the way of three breakaways and made a couple of diving saves to preserve the shut out.

Pearson said the game was a back-and-fourth struggle with two major momentum swings. In the first half, she said, the Bulldogs came out strong and held possession for the majority of the time.

In the second half, however, Pearson said South San Francisco took control, denying the Bulldogs a chance at putting one in the back of the net.

Sobrato will continue in the Burlingame tournament Saturday.
