Bulldogs are in must-win situation in final two games
Morgan Hill – With the loss to Willow Glen on Saturday, the Sobrato football team is forced into a must-win situation if it wants to keep playoff hopes alive.

The Bulldogs carry a 3-4-1 overall record and are 3-2 in Blossom Valley Athletic League West Valley Division play.

“We don’t get a shot at the league title, but we still definitely have a shot at runner-up and a playoff spot,” said head coach Dan Brown. “It’s nice to still have something to play for.”

Sobrato now turns its attention to James Lick, which is winless this season – 0-5 in league play and 0-8 overall.

Brown said although he thinks he has a better team than the Coments, he is still taking them seriously as a team with nothing to lose.

“They will be looking to drop back and get it by us,” Brown said. “Sometimes you play a team like that which doesn’t have fear.”

Brown said the team will be watching especially for Dominic Brewster and Jermaine Leggett, both of whom he said could run by his boys.

He added that James Lick will play a more wide open offense, with a shotgun formation and three wide outs, to which his squad will have to pay special attention.

But coming off the 40-6 loss at the hands of the Rams on Saturday, Brown said the team’s focus has shifted and should be ready for the Comets’ challenge.

“After the loss … we went back to basics,” Brown said. “With the injuries to so many players, we had to go back to basics. We cut about half of our plays from offense and defense.”

Brown said the coaching staff has emphasized passer protection more this week. Also, he brought up Taylor Ortez from the frosh/soft team, who he said could have been on varsity from the start of the season.

Brown also said injuries may also play a factor in Friday’s game at Live Oak.

Along with Erick Levell, who is out for the rest of the season, the Bulldogs may also be down running back Steven Gutierrez, who came out of Saturday’s game with a rolled ankle.
