Lady Bulldogs win three consecutive games; improve season record
to 5-5
Morgan Hill – Despite outscoring the San Jose Bulldogs 13-4 in the fourth quarter, the Sobrato Bulldogs girls basketball team fell 40-34 in San Jose. Prior to Thursday’s loss the Bulldogs won three games in a row improving their record to 5-5 on the season.
Michelle Bradley led the Lady Bulldogs with 13 points while teammate Laura Billos added seven points, including going a perfect 5-for-5 at the free throw line. Desiree Saenz also had seven points for Sobrato in the loss.
During Sobrato’s three game winning streak they beat Anzar, Cypress Grove and Woodside Priory and were led offensively by freshman wing Michelle Bradley, who recorded a double-double against Anzar with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
“The girls are young, but we are pulling together with every game we play,” said Bulldogs coach Rodney Tabares. “The girls are building character with every win and tough battle.”
Last Friday the Lady Bulldogs defeated Anzar 38-21 and had three players score in double digits, Bradley, Nina Baio and Roxy Dominguez. Baio, Sobrato’s sophomore center, had 12 points, eight rebounds and one steal while sophomore point guard, Dominguez finished with 12 points, six steals, three rebounds and two assists.
“We played well and played as a team. Roxy has played fantastic in every game this year. She shuts down the opposing team’s offense by pressuring the opposing point guard,” said Tabares. “She is quick, agile and has a killer instinct for the basketball.”
On Monday the Lady Bulldogs cruised to a 57-6 victory over Cypress Grove and were led by sophomore Desiree Saenz with 12 points, nine rebounds, eight steals and two assists. Bradley added 11 points, five steals and three rebounds and Laura Billos finished with 11 rebounds, five points and five steals.
Sobrato’s defense overwhelmed the blahs as the Bulldogs forced them out of their game plan early.
The next day the Bulldogs played what Tabares called, “our most difficult game of the year,” against the Woodside Priory blahs. Sobrato pulled out a narrow victory in the defensive battle, 19-18.
Freshman shooting guard Sarina Santiago led the Bulldogs with six points and Bradley added five points in the win.
Sobrato returns to action on January 5 when they face Calvary Chapel at home.
