Morgan Hill – The Bulldogs boys varsity basketball squad fell to Alisal 61-55 in their season game of the young 2005-2006 campaign. Sobrato (1-1) fought hard the entire game, but it make-up for the 3-point shooting of the Trojans.

Junior Marqus Crawford lead the Bulldogs with 21 points, including seven of Sobrato’s eight free throws, five steals, four rebounds and two assists. Teammate Thomas Buich, a 6-foot-5 sophomore, recorded a double-double for Sobrato pulling 14 rebounds and contributing 10 points.

On defense the Bulldogs had trouble stopping Alisal’s J. Comacho, who finished with 26 points, in the middle.

“Ultimately it came down to 3-point field goal shooting and the big kid in the middle for Alisal,” said coach Lawrence Crawford. “Overall both teams played hard, but Sobrato was unable to offset the 3-point shooting of Alisal.”

Mubarik Abdullahi sunk the only 3-pointer for the Bulldogs and finished with five points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Mark Garma added 11 points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal for Sobrato.

Sobrato’s girls varsity basketball

“The girls played a great game,” said coach Rodney Tabares. “Both team demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship.”

The Bulldogs were lead by 6-foot-1 sophomore center Gabrielle Aguirre with eight points and six rebounds in the win, while freshman Laura Billos grabbed 10 rebounds and four points at the power forward position.

Freshman swingman Michelle Bradley contributed seven rebounds, five points and three blocked shots for Sobrato in the win and sophomore point guard Roxy Dominguez finished with four assists, four steals, two points and one rebound.

The Bulldogs kicked off the two day Sobrato Shootout Tournament, with four participating teams, last night at 6pm.
