SPORTS SHORTS: LOHS, SHS taking part in Dig Pink girls volleyball event Saturday

beating Prospect 32-31 on Tuesday in Saratoga. The Bulldogs were
coming off a 40-31 victory over Del Mar. Firato had a game-high 13
points, and Westall scored 11 in her second-to-last game with the
Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs were coming off a 40-31 victory over Del Mar.

Firato had a game-high 13 points, and Westall scored 11 in her second-to-last game with the Bulldogs (7-16, 4-9 Santa Teresa Division). Lindsey Ellenburg added six points.

Thursday Sobrato will honor Westall and its other seniors before their regular-season finale against visiting Leland.

  • Live Oak lost its final road game, 52-48, in overtime to Andrew Hill on Tuesday.

Kristi Kisso-Martinez had 14 points, and Danielle Horning scored eight to lead the Acorns.

Live Oak (6-16, 3-10 West Valley Division) plays its Senior Game against Overfelt on Thursday.

Boys soccer

Chase Vandenbrandhorninge’s first-half score lifted Live Oak to a 1-0 win over James Lick on Tuesday.

It was the Acorns’ second victory in three games, following a four-match winless streak.

Live Oak (7-5-4, 4-5-2 Santa Teresa Division) plays its final home games next against Oak Grove on Thursday and Evergreen Valley on Feb. 14.

  • Sobrato plays its final home games those same days against Lincoln and Willow Glen, respectively.

The Bulldogs (3-11-2, 2-8-1 Mount Hamilton Division) lost 3-0 to Leigh on Tuesday.

Wrestling

Live Oak seniors Amy Fearnside (115 pounds) and Tyler Pederson (147) won by fall in their final home matches, and the Acorns beat Westmont 50-20 on Tuesday to stay in the hunt for the Mount Hamilton Division dual meet title.

Jonathan Robles-Rials (108), Austin Langford (122), Isaiah Locsin (128), Josh Acosta (154) and Morgan Smith (222) had pins as well for Live Oak, and Nick Locsin outlasted Westmont’s Adam Matsui 5-3 in a thrilling 140-pound bout. Both wrestlers are ranked near the top 10 in the section for their weight.

Live Oak (5-1) visits Prospect next week for their final dual meet.

Girls soccer

Injury-strapped Live Oak rose up to earn one of its biggest decisions of the year Monday, playing to a scoreless tie with Archbishop Mitty.

The visiting Monarchs (15-1-3) are one of the top teams in the West Catholic Athletic League and the defending Central Coast Section Division II champions.

The Acorns (10-4-2) resume Mount Hamilton Division play at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday against Willow Glen.
